Antique Early 1800s Pewter Relief Decorated Arabesque Ecuelle Porringer Covered Dish
This exceptional early 19th-century pewter serving dish is a rare ecuelle (or lidded porringer), traditionally used for serving hot broth or bouillon. The piece features a distinct Rococo form with elaborate relief-decorated "arabesque" scrollwork and organic rocaille motifs molded into both the rim handles and the lid. Topped with a large, intricately modeled Baroque finial (knop), this lidded vessel likely dates to approximately 1810 and may be of Polish origin based on similar hallmark signatures. Historically, écuelles were intended for private morning use or for serving the sick, making them a refined alternative to the more common open-topped porringer.
